Google Ads

When you search for something in Google the top few results are ads. Google Ads are great because people typically have higher purchase intent since they are actively searching for something.

Pro Tip: If you are considering making Google Ads a part of your marketing, we highly recommend doing their online certification. It takes a few hours to complete but gives you a great overview of the ins and outs of the platform and it’s totally free.

Step By Step Guide

  1. Once you create a Google ads account, the first thing you’re going to want to do is to go to the Tools & Settings section at the top and click on conversions. Follow the instructions to set up conversion tracking on your website. If you get confused, you can call support. support.google.com/google-ads will also become your friend as you become acquainted with the platform.

  2. Next use the keyword planner in the tools section or your keyword research from before to come up with a list of keywords you want to focus on. (pick the best ones to start. You can always add more words later)

  3. From here you’ll create a campaign and select your settings. Pick the locations you want to target, your budget, bidding strategy, etc.

  4. Next, create Ad Groups. These can be focused around a single keyword or can have a few similar keywords. Read about keyword types here.

  5. Create an ad that is relevant to the keywords in your ad group. Read about Ad Quality Scores here.

  6. Make sure you set bids (based on keyword research) at the keyword level if you decided to go with manual bidding.

  7. Set negative keywords (keywords you don’t want your ad showing up for). These are great starts to optimizing your campaign to stretch your budget.
