How to Support Small Businesses This Holiday Season

Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, small and local businesses are needing support now more than ever.

With many businesses closing down this year due to the economic downturn and others still struggling to stay afloat, the holiday season is the perfect time to give back to the small and local businesses that help make up your community.

At Blip, we work with hundreds of small businesses by assisting them with their budget-friendly billboard campaigns. As the holiday season begins, here are a few ways you can help support small businesses alongside Blip.

Engage with Businesses on Social Media

If you are looking to support someone’s small business this holiday season but don’t need the product or service right away, engaging with their social media content is a great place to start. Liking, commenting, and sharing a small business’s social media content helps boost a brand’s credibility as well as increase brand awareness. Sharing their posts within your social circle allows others to see their content and show support as well.

For brands that you love and support frequently, don’t hesitate to give them a good review on their Facebook or Google page. A quality review goes a long way. Don’t just write “Great company!”. Take the time to write about your experience with the business and the satisfaction you received from their product or service.

Shop Local

The number one way to show support for your community and small businesses is to shop local. Local businesses consist of small grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, boutiques, small shops, and more. The more you can purchase locally instead of from larger chains, the better.

Ordering delivery or takeout from local restaurants is a great way to show your support while staying safe. Many restaurants may be offering holiday take-out specials for you to enjoy with your family and friends. You should always order from the restaurant itself and not third-party apps, and be sure to tip your servers well (whether you dine in or take out). Restaurant workers don’t have the option to work from home during this crazy time and are working extra hard to provide meals to the community.

Purchase Gift Cards/Certificates

Purchasing gift cards or certificates are another great way to support small businesses this holiday season. Gift cards make great holiday gifts, or you can purchase them for yourself to use at a later date. This way, you can support those small businesses during the holiday season as well as later in the future. Besides, the pandemic has made in-person shopping more difficult, and with online shopping, you can expect shipping delays due to COVID-19. Buying gift certificates is the easiest way to ensure your gifts are delivered safely and on-time.

Assist With Advertising Efforts

You can help spread the word about small businesses that need support! Referring businesses to friends and family is a great place to start. Not only does sharing their content on social media help boost their advertising efforts, but sharing business cards or flyers with neighbors, friends, family helps as well. You can also place flyers on bulletin boards in your community. If you’ve advertised with Blip before, lend your support to help another small business get their Blip campaign up and running. All of these efforts lead back to supporting those small businesses and helping them advertise.
